i don't know why, when bad luck hits, it hits you with a big ka-blam! and more than twice over. it's like watching a good movie and the person behind you keeps on hitting your seat with his/her foot and then there's the couple before you chatting like usual. sometimes, even when you exert all means to ensure that you would be in residing in a good neighborhood, there will always be this neighbor from hell.
it does not matter if your lease is obscenely expensive or most of the dwellers are professionals like you --- there are just some who cannot contain (and keep private) their domestic drama that closely resembles a meltdown from a person suffering from asperger's.
while it is irritating, it is scarier (than irritating) and yes, life-threatening. you will never know if their quarrels will elevate to destructive behavior like committing genocide or setting their home on fire. in both cases, they put everyone's lives and property at risk.
there is also this neighbor, who is seeing other men besides her boyfriend (our security guard knows everything, doesn't he?!!), and the boyfriend has really violent tendencies that gave our neighbor no choice but to make a great escape through her window (asking our poor security guard to catch her. yes, bedrooms are on the 2nd floor of each apartment unit). while i couldn't care less if this neighbor sleeps with everyone in her school's varsity teams, i am so concerned about our safety since her boyfriend (the legit one presumably) works with NBI so he possibly has his sleuthing skills to great use and guns (and more ammo!) at bay.
i wish these neighbors live in some godforsaken islets so they will not cause me undue stress and a perennial, nagging morbid thought of blood, homicide, arson (the works!) and all those SOCO-inducing moments of violence.
i am always on my toes strategizing and planning the great escape when all these cavemen (and women)-created emergencies break the peace and security i assumed that we have at home (we live in a 7-door apartment building, and ours is the last unit, farthest from the gate). i do not know how all my bags and important documents get prioritized over securing the lives of Bo, Lee and Tom and making sure we all get to the gate un-traumatized.
i get so pessimistic and so bleak here that it actually scares me.
i guess, i should start thinking of us moving to the boondocks ourselves, and let these cavepeople enjoy city life instead. because by living here, they are given some semblance of civilization and decency.
and the boys would probably have a blast enjoying open space and fresh air.
